In addition to serving New York City's residents, workers, and visitors, the NYPD also conducts outreach efforts for members of some of the city's more vulnerable communities, and offers various programs for New Yorkers to become more involved with the department. In this section, you will find information about various NYPD community outreach initiatives and engagement programs.
The Community Cares Program, established by the New York City Police Department (NYPD), is designed to facilitate volunteerism and civic engagement among New Yorkers. Through this program, individuals can connect with volunteer opportunities offered by the NYPD within their borough or precinct. Activities include graffiti cleanup, beautification projects, community meeting participation, and joining the NYPD auxiliary or explorers program. By encouraging community members to actively contribute their time and skills, the Community Cares Program aims to foster a stronger relationship between the NYPD and the community, while collectively working towards improving the quality of life in New York City.
